Ariadne wasn't quite sure where Arthur would take her out, so she opted for a nice black dress and a sweater over it. She thought anyone who said black was "slimming" hadn't tried wearing it while five months pregnant. But that was okay. Despite the discomfort (and occasional old ladies trying to touch her tummy), Ariadne felt good. And Arthur was happy, too.

Ariadne found them good seats, and happily munched on her raisins as the lights dimmed.

It wasn't a very good movie, but she'd known it wouldn't be. She liked it anyway. The dragons were pretty to look at, and so was the leading man.

After the film (and mostly during it), Arthur wished he had seen a different movie, but Ariadne looked entertained enough.

When the credits rolled, she let Arthur help her up and out of the theater. "That was so crappy," she said happily. "And so fun. And when the guy got his shirt ripped off, yummy."

He narrowed his eyes slightly at her as he led her out of the theater. “We should’ve watched something else.”

"Don't tell me you're going to get jealous of a movie star," she said, leaning up to kiss his cheek. "Next time, you can pick the movie, okay? And you can ogle the sexy actresses all you want."

“We should’ve watched something with more substance,” he said. “Dragons? Really?”

"I didn't want anything of substance," she retorted. "I'm sorry you didn't enjoy yourself. Don't be huffy about it, though. It was just a movie, and we're supposed to be on a date, remember?"

“I’m not being huffy,” he told her.

She smiled and kissed his cheek again as they got back to the street. "You are. C'mon, are you going to take me to dinner?"

He sighed. “Yeah.” Arthur led her down the sidewalk to the restaurant on the corner of the block they were on. It wasn’t exactly casual, but it wasn’t the fancy sort either. “Holmes, table for two,” he said to the hostess. She looked through the reservations before finding the name and leading them to a table.

She took his arm affectionately. "Arthur. You're looking grumpy on our date."

“I’m fine.” He took her hand and kissed her palm after he pulled out her chair for her. He sat in the opposite one and took the menu from the hostess before she walked away.

She nudged his leg under the table with her foot. "I'm sorry. I promise not to ogle the shirtless actor ever again."

He smiled at her. “Thank you. That’s all I ask.”

"As long as I can ogle you shirtless once in a while, I'm happy, anyway," she said with a shrug, picking up her menu. "And those dragons were pretty."

“I suppose they were pretty,” he agreed.

"Especially that red one," she enthused, scanning her menu carefully. "I want the lamb."

“I think I’ll get the steak,” he said, setting his menu down. “And a glass of wine.

"Water, for me," Ariadne said, glancing at the waiter who appeared at her elbow. She repeated her order for him.

Arthur relayed his order as well before handing over their menus.

"I have to go to the bathroom," Ariadne mumbled as soon as the waiter left. She stood, looking vaguely annoyed - having to pee so often got old, especially when she went out - and crossed the dining room to the women's restroom.

Arthur nodded and watched her go. He sat patiently in his chair, waiting for her to come back.

When she was finished washing her hands, she stretched her back a little, feeling a bit of residual discomfort from the way the seats in the movie theater had been situated. Believing herself alone, she ran a hand over her tummy in front of the mirror. "Eleanor?" she murmured to herself, the girl name they had decided they both really liked.

A woman came out of the stills, then, but she paid no mind to Ariadne until she looked up from washing her hands. “Ariadne?” Marilyn looked over at the other woman, eyes traveling slowly from her face to the bump.

Ariadne looked a little flustered on discovering that she wasn't alone after all, but she didn't recognize the other woman until she said her name. Then her eyebrows went up a little, but otherwise her posture was indifferent. "Marilyn, right?" It had been at least three or four years since they'd last encountered Arthur's ex-girlfriend.
