Ariadne wasn't quite sure where Arthur would take her out, so she opted for a nice black dress and a sweater over it. She thought anyone who said black was "slimming" hadn't tried wearing it while five months pregnant. But that was okay. Despite the discomfort (and occasional old ladies trying to touch her tummy), Ariadne felt good. And Arthur was happy, too.

"And baby," she murmured happily.

"And baby." He smiled.

"I dreamed it was a girl," she said after a moment's thought. "Last night."

"You did?"

[chesstotem]

"Yep." She shrugged. "I don't know if it means anything or not. But I guess there is an old wive's tale."

"Oh? And what's this old wive's tale?"

"Just that if an expecting mother dreams of the sex, that's the sex the baby will be," she said simply.

"Hm," he said.

"I didn't know if I should mention it to you, or not," she admitted after a moment. "It seems kind of silly, and I don't think we should get our hopes up one way or the other - not that I think you care if it's a boy or a girl - but still."

“It doesn’t matter to me whether our baby is a girl or boy.”

"I know," she said with a smile. "I just had that dream last night, and it's been tough to shake the feeling - thinking it's a girl, I mean."

“Well, we’re going to the doctor’s soon. They’ll confirm it.”

[chesstotem]

"Yeah," she said, snuggling against him. "If it is a girl, though, I guess we'll need to reassess my psychic proclivities."

"Oh yeah? How?"

"Well, we might have to consider the possibility that I am psychic, in the first place," she said with a giggle.

"You know it's 50/50, right?"

"Yes, I know, hush, Arthur, let me have my little delusions of mystical motherhood," Ariadne said with a laugh.

Arthur laughed too and pulled her in for a kiss.

"I'm a little nervous about this motherhood thing, too, you know," she said when the kiss broke.

"I know. It's a little daunting."

"I'm terrified," she admitted. "But in a good way, if that makes any sense."

"I love our baby so much already."
