Ariadne's parents had been there for a few days by the time Arthur's mother was scheduled to arrive - which was all to the good, as far as she was concerned. She needed the emotional support provided by her parents to get up the bravery to face his mom. He told her she didn't have to go along to pick her up, but Ariadne insisted. The ginger tea helped a lot with the nausea, and the rest, well. Arthur was with her.

“I’m serious!”

She shook her head. "That's just fat rolls. I'm already gaining weight."

“Would you stop? There aren’t any fat rolls.”

She leaned in to kiss him. "I'm not showing yet. But I will be, before too long."

“And you’ll be even more beautiful.”

"So everyone keeps telling me," she murmured, nuzzling closer to him. "You're just saying that so I'll keep having sex with you."

"Sex is just a perk of being with you, but it isn't our entire relationship."

She smiled and touched his face. "Now there's our baby," she murmured. "Our family is growing."

He nodded.

"You're worried about your mother?" she asked quietly.

“A little,” he admitted.

"Why?" she asked, gently running her fingers through his hair. "Do you think it's a ploy of some kind?"

"I'll check her medical records to see if she really had gone to a therapist."

"Do what you need to," she said. "Just make sure she doesn't find out you were poking around."

“I know. And you know how careful I am,” he pointed out.

"I do know. I also know that she's your mother, and I know how you can be with personal relationships, so I'm just reminding you to be extra careful," she said, pressing a kiss to his shoulder.

"Maybe we should see if they want to go to the beach, tomorrow."

“Yeah, the beach sounds nice. I heard the weather will be good.”

"And hey, my swimsuit will be a good test for how much weight I've actually gained," she said with a smile.

“I love my wife in her bikini,” he added.

"I'll be interested to see how long it'll fit me," she said with a little grin. "Do they have maternity swimsuits? I hadn't even thought..."

“I’m sure that they do,” he assured her.

"It's not like I go to the beach a whole lot, I was just wondering..." She closed her eyes, content in his arms.

“I’ll get you whatever you want,” he told her.

"I know," she murmured, her voice low with impending sleep.

He kept stroking her hair and kissing her face. “I love you.”
