fete au Paris (open, dreamscapes!verse)

Time might work differently in dreams, but it was even weirder when an event both anticipated and feared was approaching. The past week or so had occasionally felt to Ariadne like it was speeding along at a breakneck pace towards a barrier, while at the same time crawling up a tall mountain.

And then, almost as soon as it arrived, it was over. Her thesis defense was successful, and the following afternoon she and two of Miles's other students received their degrees.

The mistress of labyrinths was now a master of architecture.

Miles knew how to throw a party. The entire upper floor of a trendy Paris restaurant had been rented out for the occasion - there was lots of food, and even more champagne, to toast Ariadne and her two classmates.

Lots of people were invited, of course, but there were a few in particular Ariadne was especially excited to see. Not that she was waiting, or anything. She was already on her second glass of champagne.

[Okay, this is mostly for dreamscape!verse folks, but anyone else who might reasonably be expected to be invited is welcome, as well as potential party-crashers! Threadhopping is not only encouraged, it is essentially mandatory, so have at it!]

And catch her by surprise he did. She turned around with a somewhat startled expression. Out of the short list of people she expected to see at this party that she knew, he was certainly not one of them.

"Wha..." she started to ask with a confused look, until quickly something dawned on her and her face changed to that of understanding and a little amusement. "Mr. E, I presume?" she asked, remembering the mysterious other teammate who Ariadne had been hesitant to reveal. Of all the thieves in all the world... she thought to herself. This was just her luck.

He chuckled, raising his eyebrows at her in confirmation. "Can't say that I ever expected to see you here. The company that Ariadne keeps, someone should keep tabs of that,"

"I could say the same about you, but your connection to those with questionable morals isn't really a surprise" she countered. "But if you're worried about Ariadne's associations, you'll have to take it up with Mr. Cobb."

"Whats interesting isn't that I associate with those with questionable morals, but that you do. Not surprising, no, but interesting," Eames comments, taking a sip of his champagne and looking around. "Are you enjoying the party, Olivia?"

"I do what I have to," she says cryptically before taking a sip of her own champagne.

"I am," she says, taking a look around the room. "It's wonderful people watching. And it's not every day I get to dress up and attend a classy French party."

"Do you understand a word anyone's saying?" He asked casually, one hand in his pocket and the other nursing his glass. He almost looked like a socialite, and that was something rare indeed. Straight laced, shaved, proper Eames was something reserved for special occasions and particularly tricky jobs. It was almost surreal.

She wrinkled her nose a bit.

"Admittedly, not much," she said. "I can catch a bit here and there, but French was never one of the languages I studied seriously."

She took another sip of her champagne before looking at him.

"What about you? Parlez-vous francais?" She may not have been fluent, but she could fake a decent accent.

"Un peu, mais pas bien que Arthur, malheureusement. Ton accent n'est pas mal, chérie." He responded with a nod and a smile, in an almost perfect accent. It wasn't the accent he used with the waitresses, but the one he used when he really did need to blend in. "You learn what you need to when you do what I do, which I'm sure you understand."

[identity profile] seestheglimmer.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Merci," she said with a smile. "Your accent is impressive. You must have lived here for some time I'd guess."

"I understand doing what needs to be done, but I really have no idea what it is that you do," she noted. "Not in the realm of Cobb and the others."

[identity profile] perfectforgery.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
"I haven't, actually, but that's quite a compliment, thank you." He said with a smile right back, taking another sip of his champagne and making a sour face. It was delicious, true, but that was out of his control. "I'm an actor of sorts, I do what I need to," He added, but it was unclear whether he was adding to his previous statement or responding to Olivia's.

She snorted slightly.

"An actor. You mean you impersonate people to get what you need," she said. She knows he's a conman and that's what they do best. "I'm just not entirely clear on how Cobb uses your....skill set."

[identity profile] perfectforgery.livejournal.com 2010-09-02 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course you're not, you're only FBI after all," He responded with a smug little smile, one that matches his insult perfectly. As far as massive government intelligent agencies went in America, the FBI was low on the food chain, he knew that well enough. "Use your imagination."

She rolled her eyes.

"If that's some kind of attempt at goading me, you can save it," she said. "What you do is of little concern to me. I'm just here for Ariadne."
