If you had to explain the roles of the movie to other people who wouldn't have any context to base it off of, how would you do it?
This one's easy. Inception is, essentially, a movie about making movies.
Dom is the director, the guiding force, the creative drive of the group.
Arthur is the assistant director, the one responsible for every little practicality, to make sure everything gets done properly, under budget and on time.
Ariadne is the production designer.
Eames is an actor.
Yusuf is the special effects guy.
Saito is the producer - the one who puts up the money and oversees the operation.
Fischer is the audience - guided through the experience to an emotional catharsis.
Mal is Cobb's own inner demons, and all the obstacles to getting the movie done.
