"I take my commitments seriously," she said with a shrug. "And I gave my word. Besides, this is partially about covering my own ass."

She noticed he wasn't really drinking his champagne. He also didn't have a drink the night they met in the bar. It piqued her interest but she didn't say anything. It wasn't her place.

She laughed at his joke. "Very true," she said and finished off her own champagne. "Not very well, I'm afraid," she answered with a shake of her head. "I studied German in school and I'm fairly versed in Mandarin and Arabic. Never really got around to French though."
